Is Leica developing a new sensor ?
The rumour mills are full of stories about Leica developing a new sensor for the digital M range.
Rumours started after Dr. Andreas Kaufmann, appeared on the German language podcast, “Leica Enthusiast Podcast” on Christmas Eve in conversation with Michel Birnbacher. No time frame was put on the project, but some think it will coincide with the release of the M12.

The last time Leica used its own sensor was in the M10, with a sensor developed alongside Austrian company AMS OSRAM. That sensor was developed by AMS OSRAM’s Dutch development office, with the foundry being French, it was a truly European affair. Later, the sensors used in the M11 series of cameras were sourced from Sony. It would be logical to assume it will still be a 60 MP sensor, but we have no information to back that up.
